About Chess 2D

A plain two-dimensional chess board against the computer, with the legality of every move worked out for you. Squares light up green when a move is valid, blue for castling and en passant, yellow when your king cannot afford it, and red when the king is already in trouble.

How to play

  • Standard chess rules apply, with you on one side and the computer on the other.
  • Select a piece and the board marks the squares it can legally move to.
  • Green marks a valid destination, blue marks castling and en passant.
  • Yellow marks a move blocked because it would leave your king exposed, and red marks a king already under threat.
  • Checkmating the computer ends the game.

Tips

  • The colour coding removes rule mistakes, not bad plans. Read green as legal, never as recommended.
  • Watch for the blue squares early. Castling is easy to forget when something else is doing the legality checking for you.
